Bobcats do the dirty work

MHS football raising funds through ‘Rent a Player’ program

The Marshalltown football team is ready to go to work for you.

Not on the football field, but in your yard.

The Bobcats are conducting their annual “Rent a Player” fundraiser by offering to help with spring chores around the yard to raise money for the MHS Football Support Fund.

Head football coach Adam Goodvin said the team is excited to interact with the community members again this year by lending their time and muscle. Bobcat football players can be hired in groups of two or four, with a cost of $100 for two players for two hours, or $200 for four players for two hours of work.

Spring planting, spreading mulch, cleaning up branches and other jobs around the yard are among the most common tasks assigned to the Bobcats.

Last year’s fundraiser helped the team pay for meals for road games, assisting with team meals prior to home games, practice equipment, and other needs. All three levels of MHS football — varsity, junior varsity and freshman — benefit from the funds raised.

Last year, money was used to purchase a drone for recording practices and games. The drone footage gives an overhead view of the players formations and plays for enhanced practice reviews. This is a valuable tool for the coaches and the players to improve their skills on the football field.

“This fundraiser is a great opportunity for our players to dive into community service and also enables our town to get to know the players personally on the team,” Goodvin said. “We have a great group of kids that work really hard. I love the fact that Marshalltown can see them winning on the field and also winning off the field by chipping in and helping out others.”

Players are available for hire on Saturday, May 10, and Saturday, May 17, from 8 a.m. to noon and 1-5 p.m. Some players are also available on Wednesday, May 14, from 4-6 p.m. Players may be rented in groups of two or four and for two or four-hour time intervals.
