Iowa signs former Drake recruit Sage

Tate Sage
IOWA CITY — Oklahoma native Tate Sage has signed a scholarship agreement with the University of Iowa men’s basketball program, it was announced Thursday by new head coach Ben McCollum.
Sage, a 6-foot-7, 200-pound guard from Weatherford, Okla., originally signed to play for McCollum at Drake University. Sage is the second class of 2025 prospect to sign with the Hawkeyes, joining West Des Moines Valley’s Trevin Jirak.
“Tate is exactly what we need for the future of Iowa basketball,” said McCollum. “He’s 6-foot-7, 6-8, can shoot, drive, do a variety of things and guard multiple positions. He is also a winner. We’re excited to have Tate be a Hawkeye.”
Sage is the 10th player overall to join the new-look Iowa roster this spring, joining Drake transfers Bennett Stirtz, Kael Combs, Cam Manyawu, Isaia Howard and Tavion Banks, Robert Morris transfer Alvaro Folgueiras, Kansas State transfer Brendan Hausen, Jirak and Hawkeye returnee Cooper Koch.
Sage earned Oklahoma Coaches Association Large West All-State and The Oklahoman’s Class 4A All-State team honors after averaging 13.1 points per game in his senior season. He helped Weatherford to a 110-12 record the past four seasons, which included winning the Class 4A state title as a senior.
Sage has a twin brother, Ethan, who is committed to play at Pittsburg State.
