SPORTS SHORTS: Mustang boys fourth at E-B-F’s Rocket Relays
EDDYVILLE — The East Marshall boys’ track and field team took fourth place out of six teams at the Rocket Relays on Tuesday night.
The Mustangs scored 91 points, finishing behind Davis County (160), Chariton (117) and PCM (105) but ahead of Pella Christian (76) and host Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont (36).
East Marshall made a bulk of its points by winning all three hurdles events. Jake Farrington beat teammate Eli Burns to the finish line in the 110-meter high hurdles with respective times of 15.50 and 16.05 seconds; Blake Neuroth won the 400 lows in 58.49; and the Mustangs’ shuttle hurdle relay team of Neuroth, Burns, Chandler Curtis and Farrington won in 1:02.82.
Curphy captured second in the 800 in 53.65, and the duo of Curphy and Nathan Frye finished 2-3 in the high jump with respective leaps of 5 feet, 6 inches, and 5-4.
East Marshall’s 4×400 relay squad of Bryer Cline, Curtis, Neuroth and Curphy claimed fourth in a combined time of 3:41.99.
East Marshall boys beat G-R in NICL golf
REINBECK — The East Marshall boys’ golf team beat Gladbrook-Reinbeck in an NICL West Division dual on Tuesday at Oak Leaf Country Club, winning 155-178.
Cody Weaver claimed medalist honors for the Mustangs, shooting a 1-over-par 36, while Rylan Weaver was runner-up with a 3-over 38.
Jackson Bidwell (40) and Austin Crandon (41) rounded out East Marshall’s scoring efforts.
Brayden Utter led Gladbrook-Reinbeck with a 38, losing a cardback to place third on the night. Chad Gutknecht (46), Anthony Knaack (47) and Austen Mathern (47) also scored for the Rebels.
Comet girls chase off Bulldogs in golf dual
UNION — The BCLUW girls’ golf team cruised to a dual meet win over Hampton-Dumont-CAL on Tuesday night, winning by 40 strokes at Union Hills Golf Course.
The Comets claimed the dual 197-237 thanks to the four lowest scores of the day. Gracie Andrews earned medalist honors for BCLUW with a 47, and Marissa Schnathorst shot a 48 for the runner-up spot. Delaney Legg (49) and Leah McEwen (53) also contributed to the Comets’ final score.
Kenzie Moorehead led H-D-C with a round of 54.
