Folgueiras to play for U20 Spain squad

IOWA CITY — University of Iowa junior Alvaro Folgueiras will return to his native Spain to compete for the U20 Spanish National Team from July 12-20.
Folgueiras will play with the U20 team at the FIBA U20 EuroBasket Championships in Heraklion, Greece. The Spanish team will be a part of Group A, competing against Poland, Israel and Finland. Teams will then be seeded for the Round of 16 stage and the competition will continue in the form of a bracket until the final on July 20.
Folgueiras will then train with the Spanish Men’s National Team, where he will play in two friendlies against Portugal (Aug. 5) and Czech Republic (Aug. 7) before returning to Iowa City.
The Málaga, Spain, native joined the Hawkeyes in May after playing two seasons at Robert Morris, where he was the Horizon League Player of the Year after averaging 14.1 points, 9.1 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.4 steals per game.
Folgueiras led Robert Morris to the Horizon League regular season and tournament titles, finishing the season with a 26-9 overall record.
