West Marshall stumped by No. 4 PCM, 6-0
MONROE — West Marshall put its first two batters on base in the opening inning of the Trojans’ Heart of Iowa Athletic Conference matchup against PCM on Wednesday.
But Mustang starter Rylee Parsons got out of the jam with consecutive strikeouts.
It turned out to be West Marshall’s biggest threat of the game during a 6-0 road loss to the Class 3A No. 4 Mustangs.
Parsons and Camden Webb combined to spin a three-hitter in the circle as PCM improved to 6-0 in the conference.
Jillian Karsjen opened the game with a five-pitch walk and then went to second Rachel Randall’s single. A fielder’s choice moved both runners up a base, but West Marshall (8-5, 6-3 HOIAC) could not score.
The Trojans put runners on first and second with two outs in the fourth, but Parsons again ended the threat with a strikeout.
Parsons, who picked up the win, registered her 300th strikeout in the first inning. Webb grabbed the three-inning save as the duo allowed no runs, three hits, one walk and one hit by pitch.
Aubree Greenwood took the loss for West Marshall. She surrendered five earned runs and fanned two in six innings. West Marshall committed two errors.
Karsjen led the Trojans with one hit and one walk and Lillian Fischer led off the fourth with a double. West Marshall was retired in order in four of its seven at-bats.
