Amellia Bromenschenkel
CEDAR FALLS — The Northern Iowa women’s basketball program announced the addition of Amellia Bromenschenkel as an assistant coach.
A decorated Horizon League athlete and proven leader on and off the court, Bromenschenkel brings a dynamic presence and a wealth of experience to the Panthers’ bench.
“We are excited to welcome Amellia to our Panther family,” said head coach Tanya Warren. “We truly appreciate our administration allowing us another assistant position and Amellia will be a good fit for what we are looking for. She just finished an outstanding career as a player at Fort Wayne.
“Amellia’s work ethic, passion and attention to detail allowed her to improve with each season, ultimately leading her team to the top of the Horizon League. We know she’ll bring that same drive and commitment to our staff and players, and we’re looking forward to the positive impact she’ll have on our program.”
Bromenschenkel joins UNI following a historic playing career at Purdue Fort Wayne, where she appeared in a program-record 147 games and etched her name throughout the record book. She concluded her career ranked in the top-10 in school history in points (1,536), rebounds (516), made field goals (568), three-pointers (173), steals (183) and blocks (80).
A three-time College Sports Communicators Academic All-District selection and seven-time Horizon League Academic Honor Roll member, Bromenschenkel combined high-level performance with academic excellence. She was named to the All-Horizon League teams three times — first team in 2023-24, second team in 2024-25, and third team in 2022-23 — and was a key contributor in multiple postseason runs, including standout performances in the WNIT.
In her final season, she started all 36 games and earned All-Horizon League second-team and All-Tournament honors. Bromenschenkel averaged 11.4 points per game, scoring in double figures 27 times. She was especially effective late in the season, averaging 15.9 points over the final seven games, including 25 points against Butler in the WNIT Super 16 and 23 against Cleveland State in the Horizon League Championship semifinal.
She also led the team in scoring and minutes played during the 2023-24 campaign, averaging 13.9 points and 33.9 minutes per game. She earned Horizon League Player of the Week honors and delivered several career-best performances throughout the year, including 27 points and 14 rebounds in the WNIT Super 16.
“I’m extremely excited to join UNI as an assistant basketball coach!” Bromenschenkel said. “I’m super grateful for the opportunity to be part of such a successful and respected program, alongside an incredible and well-established coaching staff. I look forward to translating my experiences as a player into coaching and helping in any way to bring more wins to the program! I can’t wait to get started! Go Panthers!”
