MCC names Kirkwold as baseball head coach

Kevin Kirkwold

Marshalltown Community College has announced the appointment of Kevin Kirkwold as the new head coach for the Tigers baseball program.

Kirkwold, who previously served as an assistant under former head coach Anthony Everman, brings a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of player development and recruitment to his new role.

“We are thrilled to have Kevin Kirkwold step into the head coaching position,” said Dr. Matt Schmit, MCC Provost. “His dedication to our student-athletes and his proven track record in collegiate and high school baseball make him the ideal leader to continue building on the success of our program.”

Kirkwold joined the MCC baseball staff in the fall of 2024 as the assistant coach, specializing in pitching and recruiting. In this role, he was instrumental in developing the pitching staff, guiding players toward post-MCC placement, and coordinating campus visits for prospective recruits.

Prior to joining MCC, Kirkwold served as the upper midwest assistant for Prep Baseball Report, where he identified and evaluated talent across Iowa and Nebraska. He also coached the PBR Iowa-Nebraska Junior Futures/Super Sophomores teams and the PBR Iowa Spring League teams, focusing on player recruitment, development and promotion.

Since 2015, Kirkwold has served as the executive director and recruiting coordinator for the Pitch 2 Pitch Millers in Minnesota, overseeing player evaluation, placement, and facilitating recruitment opportunities with regional colleges.

His coaching career also includes a successful stint as assistant baseball coach and recruiting coordinator at Dakota County Technical College from 2018-2021, where he contributed to the team achieving a single-season wins record in 2020. Prior to that, he was the head varsity coach at Simley High School in Inver Grove Heights, Minn., from 2012-2015, where he transformed a three-win program into a Metro East runner-up in 2014 and helped numerous players advance to collegiate baseball.

“I am incredibly honored and excited to lead the Marshalltown Community College baseball program,” said Kirkwold. “Having worked alongside Coach Everman, I know the talent and potential within this program. I am eager to continue fostering a culture of excellence, both on and off the field, and to help our student-athletes achieve their academic and athletic goals.”

Kirkwold will assume his new duties immediately.
