Four Trojans on HOIAC first team
Conference co-champion West Marshall has eight players on postseason squad

T-R FILE PHOTO - West Marshall sophomore Beckham DeSotel follows through on a swing during the Trojans’ Class 2A Substate 7 final baseball game against Van Meter on July 15 at Marshalltown High School. DeSotel has been named to the all-Heart of Iowa Conference team for the third year in a row.
The West Marshall baseball team won at least a share of the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference for the third year in a row, and the Trojans were well represented on the season-ending all-conference teams.
Four members of this summer’s West Marshall squad earned first-team honors, highlighted by outfielder Beckham DeSotel’s third-straight selection to the top squad.
Senior utility Noah DeSotel was a first-team honoree for the second year in a row, while senior catcher AJ Dee returned to the first team for the second time in his career. Senior outfielder DJ Ridout was named first team for the first time after a pair of second-team honors.
West Marshall tied with Saydel atop the HOAIC’s final standings with 13-3 records, two games ahead of Grand View Christian and Roland-Story at 10-5.
Five different pitchers earned conference wins for the Trojans, who also hit .315 in league play while scoring an average of 9.5 runs per game.
Beckham finished the conference slate with a .429 batting average, five doubles, three home runs, 22 RBIs and 20 runs scored. He had a .516 on-base percentage while also going 1-1 on the mound with 14 strikeouts in 13 innings pitched.
Ridout hit a team-leading .440 during league play, which ranked fifth in the HOIAC, while accumulating five doubles, one triple, three home runs, 23 RBIs and 18 runs scored.
Dee, who received his fourth all-conference honor — honorable mention as a freshman, first team as a sophomore, second team as a junior — batted .400 with five doubles, two home runs and 17 RBIs. He led the league with 26 runs scored as well as 16 hit-by-pitches as well as his .621 on-base percentage.
Noah was second in the conference in innings pitched, going 4-1 with a 3.32 earned run average in 31 2/3 innings. He struck out 46 batters and walked only 17.
Second-team honors went to senior infielder Caden Pfantz and senior outfielder Dawson Bear. Pfantz hit .286 in league play with five doubles, 11 RBIs and 18 runs scored, while Bear batted .364 with three doubles, one home run, 10 RBIs and 13 runs scored.
Senior Holden Simms and junior Evan Siegert were named honorable mention for the Trojans.
