MCC softball announces Hartman as new coach

Dave Hartman

Marshalltown Community College announced the hiring of Dave Hartman as its new head softball coach. Hartman brings a distinguished coaching career spanning nearly four decades, marked by a commitment to developing student-athletes and a history of championship-level success.

Hartman joins MCC after serving as the head softball coach at Creston High School, where he led his team to a conference championship in 2023 and a runner-up finish in 2024. In 2025, his team launched 52 home runs en route to a Hawkeye Ten title with a perfect 20-0 record.

While his recent success is in softball, his coaching experience with the sport began at Diagonal High School, where he coached both baseball and softball and led the 1991 softball team to a regional final.

From 2017 to 2021, Hartman served as the head baseball coach at Southeast Polk High School, where he compiled a record of 103-47. He was a key part of the coaching staff for two state championship teams in 2014 and 2015, and he also served as the head coach for the 2015 IHSBCA All-Star Large Schools team and the Iowa Junior Select team from 2006 to 2012.

His extensive resume also includes head coaching roles at Carroll, Don Bosco, Corning, West Central Valley, and Des Moines Hoover, as well as collegiate experience as an assistant baseball coach at Southwestern Community College, and the University of Dubuque.

Hartman has coached in over 900 wins as a head coach or assistant in 38 years of varsity coaching.
