Bobcat swimmers get back on track at Indianola

INDIANOLA — The Marshalltown girls’ swimming team won the final five races to break away from Indianola for a 106-54 dual meet victory over the host Indians on Thursday night at the Indianola Wellness Campus.

The visiting Bobcats (6-1, 4-1) won the first three events, sweeping two of them, before Indianola claimed the next three. Marshalltown closed the meet at the top of the podium for the final five races to pull away for the win.

MHS sophomore Emma Case was the top point-getter of the night for her team, finishing with four wins in as many events. Case claimed first place in a pair of individual swims, winning the 200-yard individual medley in 2 minutes, 35.64 seconds, and the 100 backstroke in 1:22.47, and she was on the winning 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays.

Case joined teammates Addison Elmore, Adele Beek and Zoey Pals to take the 200 medley relay in 2:08.26, while the quartet of Case, Maisie Gummert, Drea Ceren and Leia Hernandez closed the meet with a 400 freestyle relay victory in 4:08.99.

Hernandez also won the 200 freestyle (2:14.75) and was on the winning 200 freestyle relay, anchoring for Beek, Rachel Case and Addison Elmore (1:48.83).

Gummert got the top spot in the 500 freestyle with a swim of 5:48.43, while Rachel Case claimed gold in the 100 breaststroke (1:22.47).

The Bobcats take a week off before returning to competition with a home dual against Ottumwa on Thursday, Oct. 2.
