Bobcats douse Dodgers 129-37
FORT DODGE — The Marshalltown girls’ swimming and diving squad scored victory in 10 of 12 events on its way to a 129-37 drubbing of Fort Dodge on Tuesday night in an Iowa Alliance Conference clash.
The Bobcats (2-0, 2-0) swept the top three spots in a trio of events and vaulted past the Dodgers with ease.
Addison Elmore, a freshman from GMG High School, finished with four event victories on the night to lead Marshalltown. Elmore was a part of both freestyle relay wins as well as individual titles in both the 200-yard freestyle and the 100 backstroke.
Elmore won the 200 freestyle with a time of 2 minutes, 16.09 seconds, to lead the Bobcats’ sweep of the top three spots in the event. She beat teammate Drea Ceren to the wall in the 100 backstroke with a winning time of 1:12.91.
The 200 freestyle relay team of Elmore, Leia Hernandez, Rachel Case and Adele Beek cruised to victory with a time of 1:49.32, while the foursome of Emma Case, Libby Meyer, Ceren and Elmore led a 1-2-3 Bobcat parade in the 400 freestyle relay with its winning time of 4:18.46.
Emma Case captured two individual event wins as well, taking the titles in the 200 individual medley (2:30.89) and the 100 butterfly (1:07.33).
Harlie Thatcher defeated Ella DeMonte as the only two diving competitors, totaling 168.60 to earn the gold.
Beek (27.81) beat teammate Rachel Case (28.01) to the wall in the 50 freestyle, while Hernandez held off Ceren to win the 100 freestyle in 56.48. Meyer added an individual title in the 500 freestyle, leading a Bobcat sweep with her time of 6:40.65.
Alex Lasack was a part of four runner-up finishes as well for MHS, which is off until it hosts Des Moines North on Tuesday, Sept. 9, in a 5:30 p.m. meet at the high school pool.
