’Cats scratch out 2 wins in Cedar Falls Tournament

CEDAR FALLS — The Marshalltown volleyball team turned in a 2-3 showing at the Cedar Falls Tournament on Saturday, getting two wins in pool play while falling twice to ranked opponents.
The Bobcats (8-12) opened the day with a straight-set sweep of Urbandale, 21-10, 22-20, before falling to Class 5A No. 10 Cedar Falls, 21-10, 21-9. Marshalltown rebounded to close pool play with a three-set win over Waterloo Columbus, 14-21, 21-15, 15-6, but bracketed play was too much for MHS.
The Bobcats fell in straight sets to Linn-Mar (25-15, 25-13) and 3A No. 10 West Delaware (25-19, 25-11).
For the day, Marshalltown was led by senior Harper Wilson, who accumulated 18 kills and 10 blocks while serving 33-for-34 with four aces. Kinsley Bowie racked up 15 kills and 16 digs while serving 24-for-24 with one ace, and Bella Avise finished with 12 kills, eight digs, and 30-of-31 serving with two aces.
Lauren O’Neal accrued 51 assists on the day to go with 15 digs, six blocks and 24-of-26 serving with two aces. Brooklyn Smith chipped in seven kills and eight digs, and Gianna Baune totaled 25 digs and 29-of-31 serving with two aces. Kendall Brummel contributed five blocks.
