AMES — Marshalltown sophomore Joe Greazel shot a 1-over-par 73 on Monday at Veenker Memorial Golf Course, and it wasn’t even low enough to be a top-10 finisher.

The Turk Bowman Invite was loaded, as the Bobcat boys’ golf team found out firsthand.

Marshalltown shot a 331 team total to come in 11th out of 18 scoring teams on Monday in an event led by five of the top-10 squads in Class 4A.

Dallas Center-Grimes edged out Waukee Northwest for first place thanks to a fifth-score tiebreaker that only separated the two teams by one stroke. Both the Mustangs and the Wolves shot 296, while West Des Moines Valley was just behind at 298. Indianola (300) and Johnston (302) rounded out the top five.

Norrwalk (304), Waukee (307) and Ankeny Centennial (307) enriched the competition for the Bobcats on this day. Southeast Polk (310) placed ninth while Ankeny (325) was 10th.

Marshalltown’s 331 was 10 strokes better than its last outing 12 days earlier, but it was 21 shots back of Southeast Polk in ninth place.

Greazel’s 73 was good for a tie for 12th place as the sophomore carded four birdies during his round. The Bobcats got three rounds of 86 from Trae Misek, Parker Christen and Jacob Seberger to complete their scoring.

Gavin Misek finished in with a 94 and Bryson Payne shot 99 as well for MHS.

Southeast Polk’s Carter Mulcahy was meet medalist with a 3-under 69, followed by Valley’s Caden Norris (70) and Dylan Jarchow of Dallas Center-Grimes (70) with the second-best round.

After taking nearly two weeks off between competitions, the Bobcats are back at it today with Cedar Rapids Washington’s Warrior Invitational today at 10 a.m. at Cedar Rapids Country Club. Marshalltown’s Joe August Invite is Thursday at 10 a.m. at Elmwood Country Club.
