Cyclones honored by Big 12

AMES — Iowa State kicker Kyle Konrardy was named Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week for the second-consecutive week while defensive lineman Tamatoa McDonough was selected as Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

The Cyclone defensive line was also recognized as the Big 12 Defensive Line of the Week for the second time this season.

Iowa State has now been awarded nine weekly league honors this season. This marks Konrardy’s third career Big 12 weekly honor and his second in a row.

Konrardy hit a game-winning 54-yard field goal to put Iowa State in front of rival Iowa with 1:52 remaining in the final quarter of an eventual 16-13 win. It was the same distance as his game-winner against the Hawkeyes last season in Iowa City.

McDonough delivered the final blows following Konrardy’s game-winning field goal. The Yale transfer sacked Iowa quarterback Mark Gronowski on back-to-back plays to help seal the win for ISU. McDonough finished with five tackles and a QB hurry.

As a unit, the Cyclone defensive line made life difficult for the Hawkeye offense, combining for three QB hurries and two sacks as the defense held Iowa to just 83 yards passing and 214 yards of total offense.

Starting at $4.38/week.
