MHS girls swim to 5-0 by dunking Roughriders
The Marshalltown girls’ swimming and diving squad splashed past Des Moines Roosevelt on Tuesday night at the Marshalltown High School pool, improving to 5-0 with a 120-59 triumph.
The Bobcats swept first place in all 12 events and even claimed the top two spots in nine of them, dominating Des Moines Roosevelt (3-1) from the opening bell.
Marshalltown moved its lineup around to the point that 11 different swimmers played at least some part in an event victory during the dual meet.
Adele Beek, Leia Hernandez and Addison Elmore all contributed to three event wins for the Bobcats. Beek swam as part of the winning 200-yard medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay and won the 500 freestyle on her own, clocking in with a time of 6 minutes, 6.56 seconds.
Hernandez had a pair of individual wins, hitting the wall first in the 200 individual medley (2:31.48) as well as the 100 backstroke (1:10.65).
Elmore took the top spot on the podium in the 100 freestyle (58.99) as well as the 100 breaststroke (1:21.04), and she was a part of the winning 200 freestyle relay, too.
The 200 medley relay team of Beek, Hernandez, Rachel Case and Frankie Long opened the night with a victory in a combined time of 2:11.00, while the foursome of Emma Case, Drea Ceren, Elmore and Alex Lasack teamed up to take second in 2:16.49.
Maisie Gummert returned to action with two individual wins, taking the 200 freestyle (2:11.91) as well as the 100 butterfly (1:13.82), and Emma Case claimed the 50 freestyle in 27.90.
The 200 freestyle relay quartet of Emma Case, Elmore, Ceren and Morgan Bear bagged first place in 1:53.89, while the team of Gummert, Libby Meyer, Hernandez and Long (1:55.34) took second.
In the 400 freestyle relay it was Rachel Case, Beek, Lasack and Aya Korroum teaming up to close the meet with a victory in a time of 4:36.18. The Bobcats claimed second place as well with Gummert, Meyer, Bear and Long logging a time of 4:42.74.
Harlie Thatcher and Ella DeMonte were the only diving competitors of the night, so the Bobcat duo swept with respective scores of 195.15 and 168.8.
Marshalltown is back at home on Saturday with the Bobcat Invite, starting with diving at 9:30 a.m. and swimming at 12:30 p.m. at the MHS pool.
