Nunn wins Tom Karpen Invite
Bobcat senior scores medalist honors at Valley

WEST DES MOINES — Marshalltown senior Carter Nunn took the reins for the 51st Tom Karpen Invitational, winning meet medalist honors on Tuesday at Valley Southwoods Freshman High School.
Nunn finished 28 seconds ahead of the closest competition with a winning time of 16 minutes, 37.8 seconds. Four-straight Valley runners followed, led by Thomas Limback in 17:05.1.
The host Tigers won the team title with just 21 points as their first seven runners all finished inside the top 10. Johnston was second with 56 and Dallas Center-Grimes was third at 114. Marshalltown accrued 151 points to finish sixth out of eight scoring teams. Freshman Costin Piscitelli took 39th place in 19:14.0, and sophomore Thomas Stanley was just back in 41st (19:18.9). Senior Kade Randall ran to 48th place (19:31.0) and sophomore Michael Downs was the fifth scoring runner in 54th (19:46.1).
On the girls’ side, Marshalltown placed third out of as many scoring teams. Ankeny Centennial led the way with 18 points, Valley was second with 45, and the Bobcats took third with 85. Des Moines Lincoln was the only other participating team.
MHS freshman Grace Whitmore was the team leader for the night, taking 17th place in a time of 22:34.9. Senior Anessa Morrison was 19th (23:02.6), sophomore Mallory Meyeraan was 21st (23:41.2), freshman Lily Johnson was 23rd (24:18.4) and freshman Airi Hoven was 25th in 26:58.2).
