SPORTS SHORTS: Tiger volleyball team swept by No. 16 DMACC

The Marshalltown Community College volleyball team fell to 0-3 on the season with a 3-0 loss to 16th-ranked DMACC on Tuesday night at the Student Activity Center.

The Tigers were swept for the third time in as many Iowa Community College Athletic Conference contests, falling 25-18, 25-13, 25-20 to the nationally-ranked Bears (7-5, 2-1).

MCC had a negative hitting percentage for the night, recording 23 kills with 24 swinging errors. DMACC registered seven blocks at the net to make times tough on the Tigers up front.

Morghan Harvey led Marshalltown with 10 kills while contributing two service aces, one block and six digs. Kaylee LaPlant tallied eight kills and an ace. Violet Hougland added four kills.

Setter Addy Stull totaledd 15 assists and Olivia Maddux added four more. Maddy Wiese served up two of the team’s seven aces and had two solo blocks, and Callie Swanson led the back row with 17 digs.

DMACC setter Sydney Anderson, a BCLUW High School graduate like Swanson, finished with 17 assists.

Seventh-ranked Rebels rattle off sweep of Mustangs

REINBECK — The Class 1A No. 7 Gladbrook-Reinbeck volleyball team tallied its first NICL West Division win with a 3-0 sweep of East Marshall on Tuesday night, winning 25-14, 25-8, 25-22.

The Rebels were led by Kennedy Brant with 12 kills, 11 digs and three blocks, while Elly Sieh had nine kills, nine digs and two blocks. Brinn Schneider chipped in with six kills and Jada Cheville had four.

Setter Kailey Larsen finished with 26 assists, nine digs and two blocks.

Avery Boyer was 15-for-15 serving for the Rebels (5-4, 1-1), while Brant was 14-of-15 with two aces. Jada Cheville was 12-for-12 with two aces as well.

East Marshall’s offense was paced by Ashtyn Wheater with five kills and Alivia Neuroth with four. Junior setter Mya Gould had 10 assists.

Wheater contributed two blocks up front and Libby Atcher led the back row with 11 digs. Gould was the top server for the Mustangs (5-7, 0-2), going 11-for-12 with an ace. Wheater was 7-for-9 with two aces.

GMG volleyball bumped off by Braves

GARWIN — The GMG volleyball team fell in straight sets to Montezuma in a non-conference match here Tuesday, losing 25-17, 25-18, 25-13.

Rhianna Murty led the Wolverines (1-6) with six kills, while Arianna Pierce finished with four and Makayla Pendleton three. Skyler Murty and Pendleton led up front with two blocks apiece, while Ava Maddux topped the defense with 12 digs.

Hadlee Hempy totaled 16 assists and served 13-for-13 with two aces.

Sydney Burgess led Montezuma (7-8) with 16 kills and two blocks.
