WEEK 3: West Marshall rallies past Roland-Story, 27-10

STATE CENTER — The West Marshall football team scored the game’s final 10 points in the fourth quarter to defeat Roland-Story 27-20 in Friday’s Week 3 showdown.

Wilson Buckley made a 33-yard field goal to tie the score at 20-all, and the Trojans scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 5-yard run by quarterback Blayk Hart with 5:15 left in the game.

Hart finished 5-for-11 passing for 167 yards and two touchdowns while running for 86 yards and the game-winning score. Kinnick Geers caught three balls for 117 yards and two touchdowns as West Marshall improved to 2-1 heading into district play.

Dalton Eldridge led the Trojan defense with nine tackles, including two for loss, and Joe Kielman had eight tackles, with four for loss. Beckham DeSotel tallied two quarterback sacks, while Bryce Crawford recovered a fumble for the game’s only turnover.

Ethan Stephenson was 3-for-3 on point-after kicks as well.

Roland-Story (1-2) quarterback Colin Willis was 11-for-22 passing for 193 yards and three touchdowns, with Luke Thoreson making six grabs for 86 yards and two scores. Aiden Frey had an 81-yard touchdown catch, and tailback Cody Long carried 25 times for 132 yards.

Mustangs suffer first loss at North Linn

COGGIN — The East Marshall football team suffered its first loss of the season to open Class A District 4 play, falling 28-13 at North Linn on Friday night.

The Lynx (3-0) rushed for 297 of their 341 yards of total offense. Brody Martin carried 22 times for 158 yards and two scores, while quarterback Will Sommerfelt had 20 carries for 131 yards and a TD.

North Linn’s other score came on a 29-yard interception return by Braden Wheatley.

East Marshall quarterback Jaxson Boswell was 17-for-29 passing for 149 yards, while Cody Weaver was 1-for-1 with a 42-yard touchdown pass to Blake Neuroth. Boswell ran 15 times for 84 yards and a 6-yard TD.

Neuroth finished with six receptions for 76 yards, Eli Burns had five grabs for 53 yards, and weaver had six catches for 48 yards.

Neuroth led the Mustangs (2-1) with 10.5 tackles, and Wyatt Stalzer had 8.5 tackles, including one quarterback sack and three stops for loss.

Comets clobber Lake Mills for first football win

LAKE MILLS — The BCLUW football team began Class A District 2 play with a 50-0 walloping of Lake Mills on Friday night.

Comet senior running back Wyatt Gould carried 26 times for 219 yards and four touchdowns, while quarterback Elliott McIntyre was 7-for-12 passing for 110 yards and another score.

Avery Schipper hauled in a 40-yard touchdown, Ethan Shadlow had three catches for 42 yards, and Maddin Helms had three catches for 28 yards plus a 1-yard touchdown run. BJ Boaz added a 21-yard touchdown dash in the fourth quarter for the Comets (1-2).

Gould led the BCLUW defense as well with six tackles and one of the team’s three interceptions. The Comets also recovered three fumbles while holding the host Bulldogs (0-3) to 170 yards of total offense.

Wolverines outscored by Central City, 60-58

GARWIN — The GMG football team fell to 0-3 with a heartbreaking 60-58 loss to Central City on Friday night.

The host Wolverines amassed 629 yards of total offense but gave up two kickoff return touchdowns in the loss to the visiting Wildcats (1-2). Dashny Munyakazi had both kick return TDs for Central City.

GMG quarterback Ethan Klemesrud was 28-for-44 passing for 307 yards and three touchdowns while rushing 20 times for 181 yards and two more scores. Easton Sash had 19 carries for 116 yards and two scores, and Bodie Hutchinson added a short TD plunge.

Rider Kupka pulled down 11 passes for 120 yards and a touchdown, Jacoby Woodbury had five grabs for 72 yards and two scores, while Sash (5-for-63) and Hutchinson (7-for-52) also played a part in the passing game.

Cash Weber rushed 18 times for 143 yards and three touchdowns to lead Central City, while Chris Hanson made four catches for 149 yards and two scores.
