WEEK 4: Trojans trounce Bulldogs to begin 2-0 in district
OGDEN — The West Marshall football team kicked off Class 1A District 7 play with a 49-6 thwarting of Ogden (2-2, 0-1) on Friday night.
The Trojans (3-1, 1-0) claimed their third-straight win behind 362 yards of rushing and 508 yards of total offense. West Marshall senior Wyatt Brown carried 23 times for 184 yards and three touchdowns, while Kinnick Geers had four runs for 98 yards and two scores. Freshman Turner DeRossett added a 48-yard touchdown run.
Geers also hauled in a 25-yard touchdown pass from Blayk Hart, who was 6-for-11 for 146 yards with two interceptions.
The West Marshall defense pulled down three interceptions of its own — one each for Drake Whitaker, Teegun Edler and DeRossett — while DeRossett and Joe Kielman led the way with 5.5 tackles. Quintin Weingartz added five tackles.
Mustangs fall to Maquoketa Valley in district play
LE GRAND — The East Marshall football team fell to 0-2 in Class A District 4 play after a 10-3 defeat at the hands of Maquoketa Valley on Friday night.
The Mustangs (2-2, 0-2) led 3-0 entering the fourth quarter before the visiting Wildcats (3-1, 1-1) rallied for the win.
East Marshall was held to 180 yards of total offense while turning the ball over three times. Jaxson Boswell was 12-for-29 for 142 yards with three interceptions, and he was limited to 33 rushing yards as well. Eli Burns made three catches for a team-high 85 yards.
The Mustangs’ only points came from a 22-yard field goal by Eli Burns.
East Marshall’s defense recovered three fumbles — one each for Cody Weaver, Gavin Gaschler and Braxton Fisher — while Shaston Gummert made a team-high 11 tackles. Weaver and Wyatt Stalzer added 9.5 tackles apiece.
Maquoketa Valley got a tying field goal of 31 yards from Eli Dougherty before Rogan Heidt scored the go-ahead 6-yard touchdown run with 7:37 to play.
