Bobcat girls wrestlers go 2-1 at West Marshall

STATE CENTER — The Marshalltown girls’ wrestling team went 2-1 at the West Marshall quadrangular on Tuesday night, while the host Trojans finished 1-2.

The Bobcats beat BGM 53-30 and West Marshall 46-36 before falling to Benton Community, 48-36.

Three consecutive pins helped MHS finish off BGM in the opener, as Audriana Walker, Shailynn Sadie and Patricia Mateo Merida prevailed by fall to bring the score to its final.

Marshalltown took a back-and-forth battle with host West Marshall thanks to four pins, three forfeits and a major decision. Leah Graves, Geneva Spitzli, Nevaeh Gonzales and Mateo Merida all won by fall, and Olivia Wise earned a 12-4 major decision over Reese Buschbom.

Benton topped the Bobcats thanks to eight pins. Marshalltown got four wins by fall, coming from Madylin McDonald, Wise, Gonzales and Natalie Nickey.

West Marshall fell to Benton (41-30) and Marshalltown before beating BGM in the finale, 42-36. Kielly Kasal went 2-0 with two pins and also received a forfeit to lead the host Trojans. Evalyn Clark and Sophia Beebe both went 2-1 with a pair of pins each.
