Comets’ Farnsworth a four-time all-Iowa Star pick

The BCLUW volleyball team qualified for a third-straight state tournament, and the conference that helped the Comets get there recognized them for it.
BCLUW had three first-team all-Iowa Star Conference South Division honorees, highlighted by senior Grace Farnsworth’s fourth all-conference accolade.
Farnsworth, an outside hitter for the Comets, was among the conference’s leaders in a number of statistics and garnered first-team honors for the third year in a row. Farnsworth was a second-team selection as a freshman.
BCLUW junior outside hitter Olivia Peters was promoted from the second team to the first, while junior libero Brinna Benson got her first all-conference recognition.
GMG senior setter Hadlee Hempy repeated as a first-team pick as well after leading the South Division with 129 assists.
Farnsworth finished with 58 kills in conference play this season, averaging a league-leading 3.4 kills per set. Peters was third with 2.9 kills per set, while Benson was the top defender with 75 digs in league games.
North Tama senior libero Addison Hochstetler was named first-team all-conference for the fourth year in a row and was recognized as the South Division’s Player of the Year. Redhawks head coach Channing Halstead was voted the Coach of the Year after leading her team to the division title by one game in front of BCLUW.
Senior outside hitter Kruiz Ewoldt and freshman middle hitter Alaney Sienknecht also earned first-team honors for the Redhawks. Ewoldt, a three-time first-teamer, was second in the division with 3.2 kills per set, while Sienknecht was sixth (2.0). Hochstetler led the league with 56 aces and was third in digs (68).
Meskwaki junior outside hitter Dorothy Bear rounded out the first team with her first all-conference selection, getting there by way of 2.3 kills per set, 47 digs and 22 service aces in league play.
BCLUW, GMG and North Tama all had two second-team selections as well. Sophomore utility Cambria Wayman and freshman setter Sally Ramirez reprented the Comets; senior outside hitter Landry August and sophomore middle hitter Arianna Pierce got picked for GMG; and senior utility Cayleigh Heller and sophomore outside hitter Lily Sell stood tall for the Redhawks.
Wayman finished second in the conference in assists (4.7 per set) and Ramirez was third (4.2), followed by Heller (3.1) in fourth.
Sell was 11th in the league with 1.8 kills per set and Heller was 12th (1.5). Pierce (1.8) and August (1.8) ranked ninth and 10th, respectively.
BCLUW junior middle hitter Kylie Pekarek received honorable mention selection, as did GMG senior outside hitter Rhianna Murty, North Tama sophomore setter Isabelle Gropper, and Meskwaki senior libero Delia Yepez.
