Crooks, Brown pick up Big 12 weekly awards

AMES — Iowa State women’s basketball players Audi Crooks and Addy Brown earned Big 12 recognition as members of the league’s Starting 5, announced by the Conference on Monday. Crooks was named the Player of the Week while Brown made her debut on the Starting 5 team.

Crooks broke ISU’s single-game scoring record on Wednesday against Valparaiso, putting up 43 points on 18-of-23 shooting in just 20 minutes of action. She followed up with ISU’s third-most field goals in a perfect shooting game (8-of-8 FG) on Sunday against Norfolk State. Crooks finished the week shooting over 83 percent from the floor (26-of-31) while averaging 8.5 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per contest.

Brown had a week full of milestones, recording her 1,000th career point on Wednesday and Iowa State’s fourth-ever triple-double on Sunday. Brown scored 18 points against Valparaiso to reach the 1,000-point milestone, Iowa State’s 36th member of the club. On Sunday she finished with a balanced stat sheet, scoring 11 points while passing out 11 assists and pulling down 10 rebounds. The performance marked the first triple-double by a Cyclone in over a decade.
