MCC women narrowly defeated by No. 19 KCKCC

The Marshalltown Community College women’s basketball team had No. 19 Kansas City Kansas CC on the ropes but couldn’t close it out, falling 55-50 to the Blue Devils on Tuesday night at the Student Activity Center.

The Tigers (3-4) led 43-35 entering the fourth quarter before getting outscored 20-7 in the final period. Alana Webb scored a game-high 15 points off the bench for the Blue Devils (6-2).

MCC was forced into 22 turnovers, got outrebounded 52-37, and shot just 12.5 percent from 3-point range. The Tigers went just 5-for-13 (38.5 percent) from the free-throw line as well.

Kenijae Cherry led Marshalltown with a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds to go with six blocked shots. Jaeda Turner also scored 16 points but on 7-of-28 shooting, going 0-for-10 from 3-point range.

MCC opens Iowa Community College Athletic Conference play against NIACC at 1 p.m. Saturday in Mason City.
