SPORTS SHORTS: Iowa football game vs. Michigan State is sold out

IOWA CITY — The University of Iowa football team’s home finale Saturday against Michigan State is officially sold out, the announcement was made Tuesday by the Iowa Athletics Ticket Office.

The game against the Spartans will be Iowa’s 28th consecutive sellout inside Kinnick Stadium dating back to the start of the 2022 season. Saturday’s contest will start at 2:35 p.m. and will be televised on FS1.

Iowa State to play in 2025 Jimmy V Women’s Classic

AMES — The Iowa State women’s basketball team will be a part of the 2025 Jimmy V Women’s Classic. As one of three games chosen for the Jimmy V Men’s and Women’s Classic, the Cyclones will host Iowa on Wednesday, Dec. 10 at 6 p.m. on ESPN. The game also serves as the annual Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk series contest.

This marks Iowa State’s first Jimmy V Classic appearance.

ISU punter Perkins a semifinalist for Ray Guy Award

AMES — Iowa State punter Tyler Perkins has been named a semifinalist for the Ray Guy Award, announced by the Augusta Sports Council. Perkins is among 10 players selected from a field of 92 nominated candidates.

Perkins has had an impressive season, punting 35 times with a net average of 41.86 yards. Of his 35 punts, 17 have been inside the 20-yard line and only four have been returned. Opponents have accumulated just 13 return yards against Perkins, which amounts to the ninth-fewest nationally.

He owns a touchback percentage of 2.8 percent, with just one of his 35 punts ending up in the end zone. A four-year starter, Perkins owns the best career punting average in school history at 43.5 yards per kick.
