MCC women drop 7th in a row; men end streak
COUNCIL BLUFFS — The Marshalltown Community College women’s basketball team suffered its seventh-straight loss, falling 67-47 at Iowa Western on Wednesday night.
The host Reivers (5-3, 2-0) took a 13-4 lead after the opening quarter and slowly pulled away from there.
Sydney Donaldson scored a game-high 21 points to lead Iowa Western. Sophie Sarratt added 11 points off the bench.
Jaeda Turner came off the bench to score 13 points to lead MCC but on 3-of-17 shooting. Olivia Heartwell recorded nine points and a team-leading seven rebounds, while Shenell Stewart and Kenijae Cherry had eight points apiece for the Tigers (3-7, 0-3).
There were 54 total fouls called in the game, which saw 54 free throws attempted.
MCC is back in action Saturday at Ellsworth.
MCC men top Statesmen
The Marshalltown Community College men’s basketball team snapped a three-game slide with a 73-64 victory over the William Penn junior varsity squad on Tuesday at the Student Activity Center.
The Tigers (3-8) got a game-high 20 points from Tom Guma, while Hassan Bush had 16 points and a team-leading eight rebounds. Antoine Glasper contributed 11 points and three steals, while Pavle Djeric finished with 10 points, seven boards and four assists.
Billy Boulwen scored 19 points off the bench to lead William Penn.
MCC plays in the Indian Hills Tournament this weekend in Ottumwa, facing North Dakota State College of Science on Friday and Lake Region State College of North Dakota on Saturday.
