MHS matmen pin Ames in style 46-24
AMES — Three consecutive pins to close helped the Marshalltown boys’ wrestling team pull away from Ames for a 46-24 victory over the host Little Cyclones in Thursday’s Iowa Alliance Conference clash.
The visiting Bobcats won eight of 12 contested matches, with four of them coming by pinfall and another via injury default. Both teams forfeited a weight class.
Marshalltown (1-0, 1-0) got out to a 19-6 lead through the first five matches, starting with a 13-3 major decision for Jamis Piscitelli at 106 pounds. After an MHS forfeit, Bobcat sophomores won the next three bouts: Nicholas Million (120) earned a pin, Israel Garcia (126) won by injury default, and Usher Bollas (132) by 7-4 sudden victory.
Ames made its comeback in the middle weights, winning four of five matches but forfeiting another, to get within 28-24. Three of the wins came by technical fall.
Marshalltown finished it off, however, with pins by Dalton Zednichek (190), John Schoenfelder (215) and Ignacio Macias (285).
Carson Wright (165) was a winner by decision, while Nicholas Wise (144) received a forfeit.
