SPORTS SHORTS: Bouman’s 4 TD passes push South Dakota past Drake
VERMILLION, S.D. — Aidan Bouman threw four touchdown passes, three to Larenzo Fenner, and South Dakota rolled to a 38-17 win over Drake on Saturday in the first round of the FCS playoffs.
South Dakota (9-4), the 11th seed, plays at sixth-seeded Mercer in the second round on Dec. 6.
Bouman connected with Fenner for a 23-yard touchdown in the second quarter to put the Coyotes ahead 10-3. Drake answered with a 2-yard rushing touchdown from Logan Inagawa to tie the game at 10, but L.J. Phillips’ short run later in the quarter gave South Dakota a 17-10 halftime lead.
Fenner caught touchdown passes of 27 and 18 yards from Bouman to extend the Coyotes’ lead to 31-10 in the third quarter. Jack Martens added a 3-yard touchdown reception in the fourth quarter to cap the scoring.
Bouman finished 15 of 20 for 261 yards, Fenner had five catches for 115 yards and Phillips rushed 14 times for 132 yards.
Drake quarterback Logan Inagawa was 19-for-31 for 149 yards with a touchdown, and he rushed 17 times for 44 yards and another score for the Bulldogs (8-4). Jackson Voth had 10 receptions for 84 yards and a 6-yard TD in the fourth quarter.
Quinn’s career-high 31 points sends Drake past Georgia Tech
DESTIN, Fla — Jalen Quinn scored a career-high 31 points and Okku Federiko scored 20 points and the Drake men’s basketball team beat Georgia Tech 84-74 on Saturday in the consolation game of the Emerald Coast Classic.
Quinn, who finished 9-of-10 shooting from the foul line, tied a career-high seven assists while Jaehshon Thomas added 10 points to a Drake (5-3) stat sheet that sported 51% shooting (28 of 55) including 42% shooting (8 of 19) from 3-point range.
Akai Fleming scored 15 points for the Bulldogs, Baye Ndongo scored 14 points, and Kam Craft and reserve Lamar Washington each scored 11.
Drake has won its last two games against the ACC. The Bulldogs defeated Miami (FL), 80-69, in its opening game of the Charleston Classic last year.
