Wetjen earns B1G honor; Hawkeyes recognized on all-conference teams
IOWA CITY — Senior Kaden Wetjen was named the Rodgers-Dwight Return Specialist of the Year for a second straight season, headlining a group of 12 University of Iowa football defensive and special teams players earning All-Big Ten recognition.
Defensive tackle Aaron Graves was a second-team honoree by both the coaches and media. Defensive back Zach Lutmer earned second team laurels from the coaches and third team praise by the media. Defensive backs TJ Hall (coaches and media) and Xavier Nwankpa (coaches) were third team selections. Nwankpa was also honorable mention by the media.
Other Hawkeye defenders earning honorable mention accolades include safety Koen Entringer (coaches), cornerback Deshaun Lee (media), defensive end Max Llewellyn (coaches; media), defensive tackle Jonah Pace (media) and linebacker Karson Sharar (coaches; media).
The University of Iowa’s starting five on the offensive line headline a group of nine Hawkeye offensive football players earning All-Big Ten recognition as announced Thursday by the conference.
All five offensive linemen earned postseason accolades. Center Logan Jones was tabbed first-team all-conference by both league head coaches and voting media. Guard Beau Stephens was a first-team honoree by the coaches and was on the media’s second team. Tackle Gennings Dunker was on the coaches’ first team and third team by the media. Tackle Trevor Lauck was a third-team honoree by the coaches and honorable mention by the media, while guard Kade Pieper was third team by the media and honorable mention by the coaches.
Other Hawkeye offensive players earning honorable mention accolades include tight end Hayden Large (coaches; media), wide receiver Jacob Gill (media) and running back Kamari Moulton (coaches; media). Quarterback Mark Gronowski was honored with the team’s Big Ten Sportsmanship Award.
Iowa finished the regular season 8-4 overall and 6-3 in Big Ten play for the second straight season. The Hawkeyes will learn their bowl destination Sunday.
