DES MOINES — The Marshalltown boys’ bowling team took two wins away from Tuesday’s triangular at Bowlerama Lanes, beating Newton and host Des Moines Lincoln with a 3,277 total score.
The Bobcats outlasted Lincoln’s 3,113 and finished well ahead of Newton’s 2,704 for the team title, led by the career-high 277 game from Jayden Beichley.
Beichley led all players with a 226-277–503 series, and all five scoring Bobcats finished with series above 400 pins. It marked his third-straight 500 series.
Porter Niedermann bowled a 215-279–494, Aiden Cowwan went 186-256–442, Gage Grieves rolled a 202-217–419, and Carter McCready came away with a 211-194–405.
The Bobcats averaged more than 200 pins per Baker game and pulled away for the road wins.
“I was very happy with how we competed and responded to the challenge,” said MHS head coach Nathan Clark. “My main message before the match was simple: every time we’ve faced a very good opponent, we’ve folded. Tonight’s challenge was to compete, stay locked in, and refuse to back down. The group answered that challenge.”
In the girls’ competition, Marshalltown finished last out of three teams as Des Moines Lincoln dominated with a 2,809 score, Newton rolled 2,121 and the Bobcats finished with a 1,750.
The Bobcats lost their leading scorer to an injury during the second round of singles play as Camillya Thomas was removed from the lineup.
“She was unable to bowl in the Bakers section tonight,” said head coach Dustin Peterson. “We hope to get a better understanding of her injury in the upcoming days.”
Aubrey Webber led the ‘Cats with a 116-174–290 series, followed by Ariana Villagomez (137-110–247) and Bailey Damman (125-120–245). Thomas put forth a 174 opening game but couldn’t finish her second and totaled 174-36–210. Ray Massa added a 101-79–180.
Marshalltown returns to the lanes on Saturday at the Ottumwa Bakers Tournament starting at 1 p.m. at Champion Bowl.
