MHS matmen topple Trojans
WATERLOO — The Marshalltown boys’ wrestling team took advantage of three forfeits to start Thursday’s Iowa Alliance Conference dual meet and used the headstart to beat Waterloo East 48-23.
The Bobcats (13-7) followed up three-straight forfeits to open the night with a decision by Israel Garcia at 126 pounds to take a 21-0 lead over the host Trojans.
Back-to-back wins for Waterloo East made it 21-8, but the Bobcats responded with four pins in a row. Nicholas Wise (144), Colby Cross (150), Anthony Chavez (157) and Carson Wright (165) powered the big push by the Bobcats, who moved out to a 45-8 lead.
Heavyweight Ignacio Macias ended the Trojans’ streak of three wins in a row by ending the dual with a thrilling 15-14 decision.
