WEST DES MOINES — The Marshalltown boys’ wrestling team took on a trio of ranked teams to open the new year and fell short against each of them, going 1-3 at West Des Moines Valley’s Dion Cobb Duals on Saturday.

The Bobcats fell to Class 3A No. 3 Dallas Center-Grimes (59-18), No. 7 Iowa City West (58-15) and No. 20 Valley (51-19). Their lone win on the day came against Muscatine, 39-37.

Second-ranked Nicholas Wise went 4-0 on the day, racking up three pins and a win by forfeit at 144 pounds to lead the Bobcats. Cooper McLeod went 3-1 at 165 with three wins by pin.

Nicholas Million (113), Israel Garcia (126), Derek Riveral Acosta (132) and John Schoenfelder (215) each finished 2-2 on the day, while Colby Cross (150) and Jaxson Hinkle (285) each picked up one win by pin.

Marshalltown hosts Des Moines East and Des Moines North on Thursday at the Roundhouse.
