SPORTS SHORTS: GMG girls fall on the road at Baxter

BAXTER — The GMG girls’ basketball team couldn’t overcome 28 turnovers in a 32-24 loss to Baxter in Tuesday’s Iowa Star Conference clash.

Addison Elmore made a pair of 3-pointers in the fourth quarter and led GMG (7-8, 6-3) with eight points off the bench to go with five rebounds. Skyler Murty had four points and five rebounds, while Rhianna Murty got four points as well. Taelyn Sash chipped in with three points and a team-high six rebounds.

Olivia Parrie paced Baxter (11-6, 8-2) with 10 points and six steals, while Emileigh Beals had nine points and six steals. Kamdyn Krampe also scored nine points for the Bolts.

Mustang girls knocked off by Knights, 47-36

LE GRAND — Union Community used a fast start to fight off the East Marshall girls’ basketball team, winning 47-36 in Tuesday’s North Iowa Cedar League clash.

The Knights (5-11, 4-9) got out to a 15-5 lead after the opening quarter and never trailed, pulling away in the fourth period for the victory.

Paige Pipho racked up 16 points and five steals to lead Union, and Reese Anderson added 11 points and five steals.

Sydney Hull, Mya Gould and Alivia Neuroth scored eight points apiece to lead East Marshall (5-12, 2-12), which lost its fourth-straight. Ashtyn Wheater finished with six points and team-highs of 12 rebounds and four steals. Kiela Wolf contributed three points, 11 rebounds and four assists, and Addy Denham added a 3-pointer.

Dee drives Bolts past Wolverine boys

BAXTER — Eli Dee scored a game-high 27 points to lift Baxter to a 65-44 victory over the GMG boys’ basketball team in Iowa Star Conference play here Tuesday.

Cael Wishman added 14 points and Stadan Vansice had 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Bolts (14-4, 10-0), who won their eighth-straight game.

Easton Sash scored a team-leading 13 points to pace GMG (9-7, 3-6), which sustained its third loss in a row. Rider Kupka had 11 points, while Ethan Klemesrud and Jacoby Woodbury tallied 10 points apiece as the quartet accounted for all of the Wolverines’ scoring.
