No state swim finals for Seberger
Jacob Seberger
IOWA CITY — Marshalltown junior Jacob Seberger squeezed all he could out of his training to get to state.
There just wasn’t enough left to ring out of it once he got there.
Seberger represented the Bobcats in two individual events on Friday at the IHSAA State Swimming Championships at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center in Iowa City, finishing right around his seeding and his qualifying time in both races.
Seberger was seeded 30th for both the 50-yard freestyle and the 100 breaststroke and emerged with 31st and 29th place, respectively, after Friday’s preliminaries.
In his first race, Seberger was just off his qualifying time in the 50 freestyle, clocking in with a time of 22.61 seconds. He qualified for the field of 32 with a personal-best time of 22.27.
Newton senior Finn Martin qualified in first place for Saturday’s event finals with a time of 20.25 seconds.
In the 100 breaststroke, Seberger was even closer to his qualifying time, hitting the wall at 1:01.86. His qualifying time was 1:01.84.
Andrew Seifert of Cedar Rapids Washington won the prelims with a state-meet record time of 52.67.
