SPORTS SHORTS: East beats West for sixth-straight in Marshall County series

STATE CENTER — The East Marshall boys’ basketball team blew through West Marshall for its fourth-straight win, beating the host Trojans 89-46 on Thursday night to close out the regular season.

Jackson Bidwell scored a game-high 24 points to lead East Marshall (15-6), while Jackson Busch had 16 points and Cael Curphy 14.

The Mustangs led 27-12 after the first quarter and 44-18 by halftime in the non-conference clash, marking their sixth consecutive win in the series.

Teegun Edler led West Marshall (6-15) with 15 points, while Connor Kemmerer contributed 13 points. Evan Siegert added six points and Ryder Gile finished with five points and seven rebounds.

On Monday, West Marshall opens Class 2A district play at Pleasantville, while East Marshall will host the winner of Friday’s opening-round game between HLV/TC or Valley Lutheran.

Crawford’s 18 lead UIC over Drake 80-70

DES MOINES — Elijah Crawford’s 18 points helped UIC defeat Drake 80-70 on Thursday night at the Knapp Center.

Crawford also contributed five rebounds and five assists for the Flames (14-12, 9-6 Missouri Valley). Mekhi Lowery and Josiah Hammons both added 12 points.

Eli Shetlar finished with 17 points for the Bulldogs (12-15, 6-10). Jalen Quinn added 15 points.

Goebel’s big game powers Panther women

CEDAR FALLS — Ryley Goebel racked up 32 points, 16 rebounds, five blocked shots and three steals to lead the Northern Iowa women’s basketball team past Indiana State 91-79 on Thursday night in Missouri Valley Conference play.

Jenna Twedt made five 3-pointers on her wway to 24 points to go with six assists, while Kaylynn Janes put up 17 points thnks to five 3-pointers as well. Elise Jaeger added nine points and 13 rebounds for the Panthers (12-12, 8-6).

Tierney Kelsey had 27 points to lead Indiana State (8-16, 4-10).

Lundblade’s 31 lead Belmont over Northern Iowa

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Tyler Lundblade scored 31 points and made 7 3-pointers to lead Belmont over Northern Iowa 91-86 on Thursday night.

Lundblade shot 9 for 14 (7 for 12 from 3-point range) and 6 of 6 from the free-throw line for the Bruins (23-4, 13-3 Missouri Valley Conference). Sam Orme scored 15 points, shooting 6 for 10.

Leon Bond III finished with 21 points, seven rebounds and three steals for the Panthers (16-10, 8-7). Trey Campbell added 19 points and three steals for Northern Iowa. Max Weisbrod also had 18 points.
