UNI wrestling announces return of Takedowns and Tattoos

CEDAR FALLS — The Northern Iowa wrestling team announced the return of its nationally recognized Takedowns and Tattoos promotion for its senior day dual.

Fans can sign up for a lottery to be selected as one of 16 individuals to receive a free UNI-themed tattoo live during the Panthers’ Feb. 22 home dual against Wisconsin on the McLeod Center’s north concourse. Tattoos are being provided by UNI wrestling alum Isaiah Patton, co-owner and tattoo artist at Honey and Vinegar in downtown Cedar Falls.

Fans can enter the tattoo lottery beginning Friday, Feb. 13. The deadline to register is 12 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 18. Winners must be at least 18 years of age and willing to sign waivers for both Honey and Vinegar and UNI. Tattoos will be applied on the arm or leg only and from a black and grey colored preset selection of UNI inspired art and at a predetermined size.

Winners will be contacted by the end of the day on Friday, Feb. 20. following the drawing and being assigned a time during the Wisconsin dual between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. for their tattoo.

Debuting in 2025, Takedowns and Tattoos was nationally recognized by the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators with a silver award in the single-game attendance/sellout campaign category. The event helped the Panthers set a McLeod Center record with a 7,348-person crowd against Iowa State, the largest sporting event in the arena’s history for any sport.
