The Marshalltown Community College men’s basketball team was unable to score any conference wins this season, but the Tigers still warranted individual honors just the same.
MCC sophomore guard Tre’Von Coney and freshman forward Hassan Bush were both named to the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference’s Division I second team, while freshman guards Tristan Christopher and Tom Guma gained honorable mention selection for their efforts during league play.
Coney was MCC’s leading scorer both overall and in ICCAC play, averaging 12.6 points per game overall and 11.8 points during four conference contests. He ranked fourth in the ICCAC in scoring, second in free-throw attempts (21) and third in 3-pointers made (7). The 6-foot-1 Bettendorf native was fifth in the conference with 1.0 steal per game in gaining his second-straight second-team all-division honor.
Bush, a 6-foot-6 freshman from Lexington, Ky., ranked eighth in the ICCAC in scoring 8.8 points per game and was fifth with five 3-pointers during league action. He added 2.8 rebounds per game in earning an all-conference honor in his first season.
Guma, a 6-4 freshman guard from Helsinki, Finland, ranked first in ICCAC D-I play by averaging 7.0 rebounds per game. He was 12th in the league at 7.3 points per game and ninth with 1.8 assists per contest.
Christopher, a 6-foot guard also from Lexington, ranked second in the conference in averaging 1.5 steals per game. He was 12th with 7.3 points per game while also contributing 2.5 rebounds per contest.
The Tigers finished 0-4 in ICCAC D-I play behind Indian Hills (4-0) and Southeastern (2-2).
Indian Hills sophomore guard KJ LaMonte was named the league’s Player of the Year after leading the conference in scoring (14.8), assists (4.0) and steals (2.0) per game, and head coach Cole Dewey was named Coach of the Year. The Warriors will play in the NJCAA National Championships for the fifth year in a row.
