IOWA CITY — Two members of the Iowa women’s basketball roster from the 2025-26 season have announced plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal following the end of the campaign.

Freshman guard Addie Deal announced Monday on social media that she intends to leave the program and enter the portal. Deal thanked the program and supporters for their support during her time in Iowa City.

“I have learned a lot during my freshman season and look forward to continuing to grow as a result,” she posted.

Deal arrived at Iowa as a highly regarded recruit. The California native was widely rated among the top prospects in the 2025 recruiting class and joined the Hawkeyes with significant expectations. Her announcement came after one season with the program under second-year head coach Jan Jensen.

Deal scored as many as 20 points in a win over Ohio State and finished her freshman campaign averaging 5.1 points, 1.2 rebounds and 1.6 assists. The 6-foot guard played in all 34 games for the Hawkeyes and started three times in the games following a season-ending injury to senior guard Taylor McCabe.

Deal’s decision represented a notable roster change for Iowa shortly after the completion of the 2025-26 campaign.

Junior guard Kennise Johnson also announced plans to enter the transfer portal. According to reporting from On3 reporter Talia Goodman, Johnson said she intends to enter the portal when the window opens following the season.

Johnson appeared in six games during the 2025-26 season and became the first Iowa player to publicly state her intention to transfer during the offseason. The 5-foot-4 guard from Joliet, Ill., played in 20 games in two seasons spanning three years in Iowa City, totaling nine points in 62 minutes.

The announcements came after Iowa finished the 2025-26 season with a 27-7 overall record and a 15-3 mark in Big Ten Conference play, reaching the NCAA Tournament before being upset in the second round.

As of the latest reports, Deal and Johnson are the only players from the 2025-26 Iowa roster who have publicly announced plans to enter the transfer portal.

Starting at $4.38/week.
