BOBCAT ROUND-UP: Bobcat girls get third at Lamson Invite
Harper Wilson
WEST DES MOINES — The Marshalltown girls’ golf team took third place at the Lamson Invite hosted by West Des Moines Valley on Monday at Willow Creek Golf Course, finishing within 13 strokes of champion Norwalk.
The Bobcats carded a 350 team score in the 18-hole tournament taken by Norwalk’s 337. Southeast Polk pushed the Warriors with a 338 to score second out of 16 teams.
MHS senior Harper Wilson earned an individual medal with her ninth-place finish, shooting an 83 and claiming the cardback over teammate Morgan Hilderbrand and Joey Moberg of Dallas Center-Grimes to get the ninth flag issued to the top nine individuals.
Avery Polley posted her best round yet with a 91, and Emma Clawson closed the Bobcats’ scoring with her 93. Hanna Osgood (102) and Kamryn Price (122) also competed for MHS.
“Morgan and Harper both put together solid rounds and used their course knowledge to their advantage,” said MHS head coach Lucas Johnson. “Avery Polley put together her best round as a Bobcat and was able to make some birdies thanks to some excellent approach shots in-close.
“We’re still working to get better around the greens, which is where I know we can still gain strokes on the teams ahead of us.”
Southeast Polk’s Anna Wahman claimed meet medalist honors with her 3-over-par round of 76, winning a cardback over Bettendorf’s Liliana Graham.
Marshalltown’s next event is Monday’s Turk Bowman Invite hosted by Ames at Veenker Memorial Golf Course.
