BOBCAT ROUND-UP: Fort Dodge no match for Marshalltown girls golf

The Marshalltown girls’ golf team posted four of the five best scores of the day to defeat Fort Dodge 192-234 in Tuesday’s Iowa Alliance Conference North Division dual at Elmwood Country Club.
Bobcat senior Harper Wilson picked up medalist honors with her 7-over-par round of 42, while junior Emma Clawson came away as the runner-up after finishing out with a 44.
Morgan Hilderbrand carded 50 and Avery Polley posted a 56 to complete the Bobcats’ team scoring. Kamryn Price (58) and Hanna Osgood (59) also competed for MHS.
Emma Lloyd led Fort Dodge with a 55.
The Bobcats are back at home Thursday for the Linda Bloom Invite, which tees off at 10 a.m.
No. 12 Mason City escapes MHS
MASON CITY — The Marshalltown girls’ soccer team played to within a goal of Mason City for the first time since 2019, falling 4-3 to the host Riverhawks on Tuesday night.
Class 3A No. 12 Mason City (7-0-0, 2-0-0) remained unbeaten by outscoring the Bobcats 3-2 in the second half.
Marshalltown (5-5-0, 0-2-0) got all three of its goals from Claire Bonzer, who currently ranks 10th in the state with 17 goals this season. She’s one behind the Class 3A leader Sloane Moeller of Davenport Central.
Goalkeeper Sophia Valdez Chavez made 19 saves in net for the Bobcats, who are back at home on Friday night to face Fort Dodge at 7 p.m. at Leonard Cole Field.
