BOBCAT ROUND-UP: Hilderbrand leads as ’Cats club Riverhawks

MASON CITY — The Marshalltown girls’ golf team got its first win in comfortable fashion, clobbering host Mason City 187-246 on Tuesday at Highland Park Golf Course.

The Bobcats’ six scores were the best in the meet, led by sophomore Morgan Hilderbrand’s medalist round of 42. Harper Wilson earned runner-up medalist honors for the second meet in a row after shooting 47, while Hanna Osgood and Emma Clawson both carded 49 for the final counting score.

MHS also got rounds of 52 from Kamryn Price and 54 from Avery Polley.

Mason City was led by senior Blair Smith with a 56.

The Bobcats are back at it Thursday with a trip to Ankeny’s Otter Creek Golf Course for the Toni Dickey Hawkette Invite.

Bonzer nets 5 goals in win

DES MOINES — The Marshalltown girls’ soccer team marched to its second win in a row by hammering Des Moines Hoover 10-0 on Tuesday night.

Bobcat sophomore Claire Bonzer scored half of the team’s goals, notching five scores on as many shots on net.

Katie Gomez Reyes, Itzabella Meraz, Keira Halsted, Lilyia Christen and Jorja Janssen each tallied a goal for Marshalltown (2-2) in its third-straight win in the series with the Huskies (0-3).

MHS goalkeepers Sophia Valdez Chavez and Maddy Schmit made one and five saves, respectively.

The Bobcats are back on the road Thursday with a 5:30 p.m. match at Waterloo Columbus before hosting Ames on Friday at Leonard Cole Field.

MHS boys run in Ankeny

ANKENY — The Marshalltown boys’ track and field team finished last out of 11 scoring teams at Ankeny’s Fred Smith Hawk Relays on Tuesday at Northview Middle School.

The Bobcats were led by a fourth-place finish from Jaxson Hinkle, who tossed the discus 140 feet, 10 inches. Hinkle also took ninth in the shot put with a heave of 45-8.

Aiden Smitherman scored sixth place in the 400-meter dash to lead MHS on the track, clocking in at 52.34 seconds. Isacc Ceniceros was ninth in the same event in 53.49, as both runners posted personal-best times.

Marshalltown’s sprint medley relay team of Larrs Schoenfelder, Jayden Lavender, Elicha Mboungou and Carson Wright came away with eighth place in a time of 1:45.15; the 4×400 foursome of Ceniceros, Smitherman, Declan Greene and Zak Wilder went 3:43.34 for ninth; and the 4×100 quartet of Fernando Garcia, Lavender, Zane Moore and Mboungou got 10th in 46.96.
