SPORTS SHORTS: Hull’s victory leads East Marshall girls at Madrid

MADRID — East Marshall junior Sydney Hull won the 800-meter run to lead the Mustangs to seventh place at the Madrid Co-Ed Invite on Tuesday night.

The Mustangs scored 49.5 points to place seventh out of eight teams. Roland-Story rolled to the team title with 259 points, followed by Boone (190) and host Madrid (178.5).

Hull topped the field in the 800 with a time of 1 minute, 6.99 seconds, holding off Boone’s Briella Johnson (2:32.76) for the gold. Hull also bagged bronze in the 400 with her time of 1:06.99.

In field events, Marisa Cahalan came away with second place in the high jump after clearing 4 feet, 10 inches. Ashtyn Wheater took third in the shot put (37-7 1/4) and fourth in the discus (100-8).

The Mustangs’ sprint medley relay team of Gianna Boswell, Libby Atcher, Addy Denham and Hull scored silver in 2:03.86. The 4×400 foursome of Denham, Dayviah Hinegardner, Faith Pardekooper and Hull earned fourth in 4:51.21.

Two ISU football road games moved to Fridays

AMES — Head coach Jimmy Rogers’ first season coaching the Iowa State football team will feature a pair of conference road games on Friday nights under the lights, the Big 12 Conference announced.

Iowa State will now face BYU in Provo, Utah, on Friday, Oct. 9, and UCF in Orlando, Fla., on Friday, Nov. 20.

Kickoff times and television networks will be announced at a later date.
