SPORTS SHORTS: Mustang boys third at competitive Falcon Invite

PARKERSBURG — East Marshall senior Cody Weaver settled for second place on a cardback and the Mustangs placed third as a team at Aplington-Parkersburg’s Falcon Invite on Wednesday at Legend Trail Golf Club.

Weaver tied Grundy Center’s Judd Jirovsky for the low round after both golfers shot a 1-under-par 71. Jirovsky captained the Spartans to a narrow team title, edging the host Falcons 313-314. East Marshall was just back at 316 for third, while West Marshall (362) finished last in the 10-team tournament.

East Marshall got additional scoring rounds from Jackson Bidwell, who placed third overall with his 75, and Wyatt Stalzer, who was 16th after an 83.

West Marshall was led by defending Class 2A state champion Hunter Polley, who placed fifth with a round of 77.

Comets compete at Madrid’s Ron Hamel Co-Ed Relays

MADRID — The BCLUW girls’ and boys’ track and field teams both finished at the bottom of their respective standings at Tuesday’s Ron Hamel Co-Ed Relays hosted by Madrid High School.

The Comet girls came in last out of eight teams, scoring 30 points. Madrid won its own invite with 127 points, followed by Van Meter (104.5) and Martensdale-St. Marys (78).

Grace Farnsworth finished third in both the shot put and the discus to lead BCLUW. She hurled the disc 102 feet, 1 inch, and the shot 34-9 3/4 to bag bronze in both events.

Brinna Benson scored fourth place for her time of 13.92 seconds in the 100-meter dash, while the 4×800 relay foursome of Chloe Switzer, Kennedy Davis, Elise Engle and Layla Follett finished four in a combined time of 11:31.44.

Switzer scored fifth and Adelynn Zoske sixth in the high jump, both clearing 4-4, and the 4×100 relay team of Cambria Wayman, Lucy Walters, Follett and Benson got fifth in 55.13.

The BCLUW boys scored 34 points to finish at the bottom of the seven-team event. Madrid won with 133 points, Earlham was second with 127 and Van Meter took third with 96.

Vance Hoyt claimed the long jump title to lead the Comets, clearing 19-6 1/4. Daniel Zoske was second in the discus (140-2) and fourth in the shot put (43-11 3/4).

Eathan Petermeier picked up third-place points in the 100 (11.94), while the distance medley relay team of Petermeier, Hoyt, Brayden Catherwood and Tommy Hinderhofer took fifth in 3:54.59.

Wheater’s win leads East Marshall girls at D-NH

DIKE — The East Marshall girls’ track and field team finished 12th and GMG was 14th at the Lady Simons Relays hosted on Tuesday by Dike-New Hartford.

Waverly-Shell Rock won the 15-team invitational with 93 points, followed closely by the host Wolverines (89) and Jesup (84).

East Marshall’s top result came from Ashtyn Wheater, who won the shot put with a toss of 36 feet, 2 inches. Sydney Hull scored silver in the 800-meter run with a time of 2 minutes, 25.93 seconds.

Marisa Cahalan helped the Mustangs with sixth-place points in the high jump, clearing 4-8, and Faith Pardekooper was seventh in the 3,000 (14:18.10).

Skyler Murty scored a bulk of GMG’s points, picking up third place in the shot put (35 feet) and seventh in the discus (92-1). Arianna Pierce scored sixth in the shot put (33-11 1/2) as well.

Bidwell medals as Mustangs take home triangular

Jackson Bidwell scored medalist honors as the East Marshall boys’ golf team took most of the hardware from Tuesday’s triangular meet at Wandering Creek Golf Course.

The Mustangs shot a 156 team score to finish ahead of Gladbrook-Reinbeck (163) and South Tama (167).

Bidwell shot a 1-under-par 35 to take first place by two strokes ahead of STC’s Ayden Wobeter, who won runner-up honors after a cardback against East Marshall’s Cody Weaver after both shot 37.

Rylan Weaver shot 39 and Wyatt Stalzer had a 45 to finish out the Mustangs’ team scoring.

Brayden Utter shot 39 to lead Gladbrook-Reinbeck.

Comets claim conference dual with North Tama

UNION — The BCLUW boys’ golf team swept the top four spots en route to an Iowa Star Conference dual meet victory over North Tama on Tuesday night at Union Hills Golf Course.

The Comets outscored the Redhawks 158-176 for the team win, while Aiden Frank led a BCLUW sweep on the individual scoreboard with his medalist round of 2-over-par 37.

Beau Towne (39), Nate Bishop (40) and Maverick Grafke (42) completed the Comets’ team scoring, while Zaden Eggers (42) and Adam Frank (44) also competed.

Kayvin Morris shot 42 to lead North Tama.

BCLUW girls golf circles around non-conference foes

UNION — The BCLUW girls’ golf team swept the top three spots en route to a team victory at a non-conference triangular on Monday at Union Hills Golf Course.

Lean McEwen led the Comets with a round of 44 to take medalist honors. Gracie Andrews shot 48 for second place and Jaya Beeghly was third with a 49. Ainsley Geelhart had a 56 to finish up BCLUW’s counting rounds.

The Comets shot 197 to finish in front of South Hamilton (232) and Hampton-Dumont-CAL (252).

Comet boys handle host Bulldogs in dual meet

HAMPTON — Zaden Eggers earned medalist honors and Aiden Frank was the runner-up as the BCLUW boys’ golf team toppled host Hampton-Dumont-CAL on Monday, 181-221.

Eggers shot a 6-over-par 43 and Frank finished with a 45 to bring home the hardware. Eathan Petermeier posted a 45 and both Adam Frank and Beau Towne shot 48 to contribute the Comets’ final counting score.

Max Kofoot and Caiden Heilskov both shot 45 to lead the host Bulldogs.
