Weaver medals, Mustangs second in own invite
East Marshall senior Cody Weaver carded three birdies and eagled the final hole in winning the inaugural Mustang Invite championship on Tuesday at Elmwood Country Club.
Weaver tallied an eagle-2 on the par-4 18th hole at Elmwood to finish in with a 34-32–66, shooting a medalist round of 4-under-par.
The Mustangs finished just two shots shy of claiming the team title as Aplington-Parkersburg topped the field with a 304. East Marshall carded 306, Grundy Center shot 307, and Waterloo Columbus came in at 308 to lead the seven-team field. Nevada (317), Van Meter (336) and Hudson (345) rounded out the standings.
Weaver’s medalist round was four strokes ahead of the competition, holding off Cam Brenden of Columbus and Judd Jirovsky of Grundy Center as both shot 70.
East Marshall got a seventh-place finish from Jackson Bidwell with his 74, while Wyatt Stalzer tied for 14th at 79. Rylan Weaver rounded out the team scoring with an 87, while Austin Crandon (92) and Jaxson Boswell (100) also competed for the Mustangs.
Cormick Steege tied for fifth to lead Aplington-Parkersburg with a 73. Benny Waller, a University of Iowa golf recruit like Cody Weaver, shot 76 for the Falcons.
