MHS football raising funds through ‘Rent a Player’

Marshalltown High School football players will be available to help with spring chores like planting, spreading mulch and cleaning up branches with the “Rent a Player” fundraiser.

The annual “Rent a Player” event has been a successful fundraiser for the Bobcat football squad, according to head coach Adam Goodvin, for a number of reasons. Goodvin said the team is excited to interact with community members again this year by lending their time and muscle. The Bobcat football players can be hired in groups of two or four. The cost is $100 for two players providing two hours of work and $200 for four players providing two hours of work.

Players are available for hire on Saturday, May 9 and May 16 from 8 a.m. to noon and 1-5 p.m. Some players are also available on Wednesday, May 13, from 4-6 p.m. Players may be rented in groups of two or four and for two or four-hour time intervals.

“This fundraiser is a great opportunity for our players to dive into community service and also enables our town to get to know the players personally on the team,” said Goodvin. “We have a great group of kids that work really hard. I love the fact that Marshalltown can see them winning on the field and also winning off the field by chipping in and helping out others.”

The money raised goes into the MHS Football Support Fund. These dollars are used throughout the season for feeding the players on the road, assisting with team meals prior to home games, buying practice equipment, and supporting other team needs. All of the MHS football teams including the freshman, junior varsity and varsity teams are recipients of the money raised.
