Polley punches ticket; Comets denied state

WATERLOO — The defending Class 2A state champion is headed back to the season-ending meet.

West Marshall senior Hunter Polley picked up his third state tournament berth by finishing fourth at Monday’s 2A district meet at Gates Park Golf Course, shooting a 4-over-par 76.

Polley will return to Waterloo on May 26-27 for the state tournament at South Hills Golf Course.

Comets come up short

FORT DODGE — The BCLUW boys’ golf team was unable to punch its ticket to the state meet at Monday’s Class 1A district meet at Lakeside Municipal Golf Course, finishing sixth out of 12 teams.

The Comets shot a 332 team score, which ended up 16 strokes shy of the top-three finish needed to reach state. Coon Rapids-Bayard beat Gladbrook-Reinbeck on a fifth-score tiebreaker to take the team title after both squads shot 315, and Earlham clinched the final spot at 316.

BCLUW was led by Beau Towne, who tallied a 7-over-par round of 79 to tie for 13th place. Zaden Eggers shot 82, Aiden Frank had an 84, and Eathan Petermeier posted an 87 to round out the Comets’ scoring. Adam Frank and Nate Bishop both shot 88 as well for BCLUW.
