SPORTS SHORTS: Bobcat baseball splits with Waterloo East

The Marshalltown baseball team split with Waterloo East on Thursday, winning the opener 11-4 before falling 11-0 in the five-inning nightcap.

Freshman Jalen Logsdon pitched five innings of relief in Game 1 for the win after Luke Stalzer tossed two scoreless frames. Larrs Schoenfelder and Kinnick Niedermann both finished with two hits, including a double, and two RBIs.

East hurler Caleb Peters pitched a one-hit shutout in the finale, striking out 13 and walking just one. Logsdon had the Bobcats’ lone hit.

MHS softball sweeps Trojans, turns attention to Ames

The Marshalltown softball team scored its first two wins of the season Thursday night, sweeping Waterloo East 8-0 and 9-1 in a pair of Iowa Alliance Conference North Division games at the MHS diamonds.

The Bobcats (2-1) host Ames for a conference doubleheader on Monday at 5 p.m.
