Fort Dodge drowns out Bobcat softball
Fort Dodge ran its win series streak to 47 in a row over the Marshalltown softball team with Thursday’s Iowa Alliance Conference sweep of the Bobcats.
The Class 4A No. 3 Dodgers (26-3, 12-0) claimed the twinbill by scores of 15-0 and 10-0, both in four innings, to retain the top spot in the Alliance’s North Division.
Fort Dodge totaled 25 hits in the doubleheader sweep while the host Bobcats (10-16, 4-8) came away with just three.
In the opening game, Fort Dodge used a 13-run second inning to break free. The Dodgers racked up nine hits in the decisive inning, highlighted by two-run singles for Hope Alstott and Ellie Doster, an RBI double by Meg Marsh and a run-scoring triple by Maeleena Meyer.
Aubrey Alstott’s otherwise perfect game was ruined by a third-inning single by Marshalltown’s Kendall Brummel. Alstott struck out five and walked none.
Emma Stupp took the loss in the circle for MHS, allowing nine runs — seven earned — on six hits and two walks. Hanna Osgood gave up five runs — three earned — on eight hits over 2 2/3 innings in relief.
In the finale, Sydney Carver struck out five and walked one in a two-hitter for Fort Dodge, and Emersyn Lara finished 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored to highlight the Dodgers’ 10-hit game.
Fort Dodge tallied six runs in the top of the fourth, including run-scoring doubles by Marsh and Doster.
Olivia Wise and Stupp accounted for the Bobcats’ only hits in the second game, while Leah Graves was walked in her only plate appearance.
Briley Danielson surrendered 10 runs on 10 hits and five walks while striking out two in the loss.
