Panthers add game at Kansas
CEDAR FALLS — The Northern Iowa men’s basketball team announced the addition of a road game against the University of Kansas to its 2026-27 non-conference schedule.
The Panthers will visit the Jayhawks this upcoming season on Tuesday, Dec. 1 at historic Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence, Kan. Additional games for UNI’s 2026-27 schedule will be announced at a later date.
December’s matchup will be the first meeting between the two programs since Northern Iowa’s historic upset of the No. 1 ranked Jayhawks in the second round of the 2010 NCAA Tournament, a victory that propelled the Panthers into the Sweet 16 for the first time in program history.
UNI and Kansas have met only one other time in December of 1973, a game that saw the Jayhawks best the Panthers in Lawrence, 94-60.
Kansas finished the 2025-26 season with a 24-11 record and 12-6 mark in the Big 12 Conference before falling in the second round of the NCAA Tournament to St. John’s.
Northern Iowa begins its first season under new head coach Kyle Green after posting a 23-13 record and 11-9 mark in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Panthers’ 2025-26 campaign ultimately ended with a first round NCAA Tournament loss.
