SPORTS SHORTS: Greenwood, Trojans blank Saydel

DES MOINES — Aubree Greenwood pitched a three-hit shutout and the Class 2A No. 12 West Marshall softball team stumped Saydel 8-0 in Tuesday’s Heart of Iowa Conference clash.
The Trojans (11-6, 8-3) scored in four of their seven at-bats, highlighted by a four-run sixth inning to finish it off. Jenna Randall and Cailyn Brown had RBI singles and Ashtyn Blood had a run-scoring groundout.
Brown finished 3-for-4 with a triple, a run scored and three RBIs to lead the West Marshall bats. Alayna Frederick was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored, while Hattie McCollum was 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and three runs scored.
Greenwood struck out four and walked two in the win.
Ladehoff handcuffs Rockford with 20 Ks
CONRAD — Eden Ladehoff struck out 20 in a one-hitter in leading the BCLUW softball team to a 7-0 victory over Rockford in Monday’s Iowa Star Conference contest.
Ladehoff walked one batter and got a groundout to third baseman Brayleigh Gardner to buzz through the Warriors’ lineup, facing only two more than the minimum. Alexis Steere hit a double for Rockford (5-9).
Offensively, Leila Wedgwood, Wyllo Collins, Malaya Wallace and Ladehoff had two hits apiece. Ladehoff doubled and drove in two runs, Collins plated three runs, and courtesy runner Cami Ward scored three times.
Trojan baseball splits with Thunder
DES MOINES — The West Marshall baseball team split a Heart of Iowa Conference doubleheader against Grand View Christian on Monday at Des Moines Hoover, winning the opener 8-2 before falling 9-0 in the nightcap.
The Trojans (11-8, 6-7) got a complete-game pitching performance from Beckham DeSotel in the opener. He allowed two earned runs on six hits and three walks while striking out six.
Offensively, Evan Siegert, Drake Whitaker and Hunter Polley had two hits apiece, while Riley Hanford doubled in a run and scored.
Grand View Christian (8-5, 6-2) used a five-run first inning in the second game to take the finale. Luke Jordan pitched a one-hit shutout, walking two while striking out 15, and Tate Moulton drove in four runs with a pair of doubles for the Thunder.
DeSotel tallied the Trojans’ only hit in the game. Polley got chased from the mound in the first inning to take the loss, allowing five runs — three earned — on four hits and two walks. Garrett Bear and Asher DeSotel combined to pitch the final 5 1/3 frames.
East Marshall eases past DNH
LE GRAND — The Class 2A No. 8 East Marshall softball team provided a steady offensive presence in a 9-1 win over Dike-New Hartford in Monday’s North Iowa Cedar League meeting.
Peyton Grabenbauer struck out six and walked none in the pitcher’s circle for East Marshall (11-3, 6-1), allowing only five hits. Dike-New Hartford (7-7, 5-2) got its only run on a solo homer from Aubrey Mracek.
Miyah Grabenbauer, Ashtyn Wheater and Libby Atcher had two hits apiece for the Mustangs. Grabenbauer scored twice, Wheater drove in three runs, while Atcher tripled home a run and scored.
Peyton Grabenbauer doubled and drove in two runs, while Addi Cole had a single for East Marshall.
Boege helps GMG handle Dunkerton
DUNKERTON — GMG sophomore Riah Boege struck out 15 in pitching a two-hitter and the Wolverines handled Dunkerton 7-1 in Monday’s Iowa Star Conference softball game.
Boege walked a total of three hitters and gave up only a home run to Dunkerton’s Kylee Pexa.
Rhianna Murty went 4-for-4 at the plate with a double and three RBIs to lead the Wolverines (5-9) to victory. Tatum Jones was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, while Natalie Upah and Skyler Murty both contributed two of the team’s 12 hits. Kaylee Beach singled, scored twice and drove in a run.
Dunkerton pitcher Mariah Boeschen struck out four but walked seven.
Mustangs drop ninth-straight
GILMAN — Dike-New Hartford sent the East Marshall baseball team to its ninth loss in a row with a 9-2 triumph over the host Mustangs on Monday night.
Gavin Gerbracht struck out 13 over 6 1/3 innings for the win for the Wolverines (9-3, 7-1). Tate Block led the DNH bats, going 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs.
Jackson Busch had a pair of hits and drove in a run to lead East Marshall (3-11, 1-7). Blake Neuroth and Jaxson Boswell both singled.
Busch took the loss on the mound, allowing five runs — three earned — on five hits and five total walks while striking out eight. Landen Dougherty struck out three over the last two innings in relief.
Wolverines fall at Dunkerton
DUNKERTON — The GMG baseball team suffered its 11th-straight loss, falling 7-2 to Dunkerton on Monday night.
GMG (1-12) got within 3-2 with two runs in the top of the third inning, but the Wolverines didn’t score again.
Ethan Klemesrud hit an RBI single and scored, coming around on a ball off the bat of Easton Runner. Drayson Stephenson walked and scored, while Liam Stephenson and Jacoby Woodbury had the team’s only other hits.
Klemesrud took the loss on the mound, allowing six runs — two earned — on five hits and four walks while striking out six.
Colin Snyder went 2-for-3 with a double and three runs scored to lead Dunkerton (3-8).
