Trojans topple Mustangs in Marshall County clash

GILMAN — The West Marshall baseball team got the upper hand after a high-scoring first inning and ousted East Marshall in Wednesday’s non-conference clash, 12-6.
The visiting Trojans (12-8) led 8-4 after the opening frame against the host Mustangs (3-13).
Beckham DeSotel had three hits, including two doubles, and drove in two runs while Karver Christensen had two hits with a homer and three RBIs.
Riley Hanford and Braxton Toyne had two hits apiece, including a double and two RBIs for Hanford, while Evan Siegert had two hits with a double and a run driven in. Siegert earned the pitching win for his five innings of work, while Drake Whitaker pitched two innings of shutout relief for the save.
East Marshall starting pitcher Nathan Frye didn’t escape the Trojans’ eight-run first inning and took the loss. Landen Dougherty pitched the final 6 1/3 innings, striking out three, and had three hits with an RBI and a run scored.
Jaxson Boswell added a two-hit day that included a double, two runs scored and two RBIs.
East Marshall softball slips past Cyclones
LE GRAND — The Class 2A No. 9 East Marshall softball team scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to blast past Denver, 8-6 in Wednesday’s North Iowa Cedar League tilt.
Denver (11-5) led 3-2 before scoring three times in the top of the sixth, only to see East Marshall (12-3) make its winning move in the bottom half.
Peyton Grabenbauer homered and drove in three runs for the Mustangs, and she struck out six from the pitcher’s circle for the win. She allowed two earned runs on five hits and one walk.
Reagan Halverson hit two doubles and scored twice, and Sophia Adkins was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Losing pitcher Jenna Collins struck out nine and homered to help her own cause.
Wolverines oust West Marshall softball
DIKE — Dike-New Hartford hit a pair of home runs in a 7-2 win over the West Marshall softball team on Wednesday night in non-conference play.
Stella Walker hit a three-run homer in the first inning and Faith Gray added a solo shot in the fourth for the Wolverines (8-7). Gray also got the win in the circle, scattering 10 hits and one walk against three strikeouts.
Jenna Randall had three hits, including two doubles, and an RBI to lead West Marshall (11-7). Ashtyn Blood and Olivia Randall both had two hits and scored a run, and Riley Randall had two singles and an RBI. Cailyn Brown took the loss for her three innings pitched, allowing four runs while striking out four.
Comets no match for Clarksville
CLARKSVILLE — Class 1A’s top-ranked Clarksville Indians defeated the BCLUW softball team 7-0 on Wednesday night.
The Comets (5-7) got only two hits in the Iowa Star Conference loss, as Brooke Ward and Raine Sireno both singled. Ward also walked twice. BCLUW pitcher Eden Ladehoff was touched up for five earned runs on 10 hits while striking out three.
Sydney Lovrien struck out four in the win for Clarksville (12-1). Kara Bohlen was 3-for-3 with a home run.
Wolverines end skid at Mustangs’ expense
GREEN MOUNTAIN — The GMG baseball team ended its 11-game losing streak by scoring the last six runs in a 6-2 victory over East Marshall on Tuesday night.
The Wolverines (2-12) cut their 2-0 deficit to one with a run in the fifth before scoring five times in the sixth to prevail.
Drayson Stephenson finished 2-for-4 with a double, a run and two RBIs, while Jacoby Woodbury went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored. Easton Runner, Ethan Klemesrud and Wilken Schmitz each added RBI singles.
Brayton Davis needed just 84 pitches to go the distance for GMG, allowing eight hits and two walks while striking out one.
Cael Neuroth had three hits, an RBI and scored a run for East Marshall (3-12), which lost its 10th in a row. Blake Neuroth added an RBI single. Eli Burns surrendered five runs in his only inning on the mound to take the loss. Austin Crandon allowed one run on five hits and two walks while striking out one in his five innings.
Dons deal GMG decided defeat
GREEN MOUNTAIN — Don Bosco scored 13 unanswered runs to beat the GMG softball team 14-2 in five innings of Iowa Star Conference action on Wednesday.
The visiting Dons (13-6) totaled 11 hits, with Paisley Parker going 2-for-4 with a double and four RBIs to lead the way.
GMG (5-10) got just two hits — a double for Riah Boege and a single for Kaylee Beach. Skyler Murty drove in Grace Mathern, who had walked, as the Wolverines’ lone run. Boege struck out eight but walked seven in the loss, allowing seven hits and nine runs over 4 1/3 innings. GMG committed seven errors.
